The SuperBark project was introduced during ECOMONDO 2024, held between 4-7th November 2024 in Rimini, Italy.
ECOMONDO 2024 hosted a wide programme of conferences, seminars and events focusing on the main changes in technology, regulations and the market in various industrial and urban sectors. These included circular economy innovations from textiles, WEEE, plastic, paper and cardboard, automotive, construction, municipal organic waste, agrifood, bio-based industries and the marine and maritime sectors.
SuperBark was represented at the event by our partner Kastamonu. Based in Türkiye, Kastamonu produces raw and melamine coated particle boards, glossy panels, MDF, laminate flooring, door panels and value-added products for the needs of the furniture, decoration and construction sectors. The team hosts a regular stand at ECOMONDO, as the Kastamonu Italy factory produces particleboards with 100% recycled material. The Superbark project was presented along with new sustainable products from Kastamonu, including their 100% biobased commercial Pureboard -product samples and Coffeeboard -product made of coffee ground waste.
In SuperBark, Kastamonu provides pine bark from Türkiye to VTT in Finland for extraction of polyphenols, and develops bio-based adhesives based on bark polyphenols for application in particle boards. The developed adhesives will also be provided to project partners for testing in other types of wood panels.
