SuperBark and BIORING Showcase Bio-Based Coating Innovations at Pitch Perfect Bioeconomy 2025

SuperBark participated in Pitch Perfect Bioeconomy 2025 alongside its CBE JU sister project, BIORING, presenting advancements in wood-based, bio-derived coating solutions. The event took place on 24–26 November 2025 in Brussels.

Pitch Perfect Bioeconomy is a three-day industry event organized by Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant with the support of Pilots4U powered by COPILOT and The ProteInn Club. The event focuses on cross-border and cross-sector pitching, matchmaking, and networking to connect industry players with innovative bio-based technologies, link innovators with investors, and foster future partnerships. This year’s event attracted more than 500 participants, including start-ups, research projects, and stakeholders seeking new collaboration and funding opportunities.

SuperBark was represented by Circular Economy Expert Nora Berglund from CLIC Innovation at a joint booth with BIORING, which is funded under the same CBE JU call. Key takeaways from the event included:

  • Strong interest from attendees in the coating solutions developed by SuperBark and BIORING.
  • A diverse range of companies are working on bio-based coatings for applications involving polyphenols, polyols, and various fermented compounds.
  • Recognition that bio-based alternatives remain more challenging and costly than conventional options, while still being viewed as essential for the future; discussions also touched on biodegradability, flame retardancy, and coating durability.
  • Significant attention to SuperBark’s bark-based raw materials, as well as broader interest in Finnish forestry and the potential of its industrial side streams.

CLIC Innovation leads Work Package 6 – Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation within the SuperBark project, working to increase awareness of bio-based adhesive and coating solutions and to maximise the impact of project outcomes.
